Do you Yam? Microsoft does!

Microsoft acquired Yammer on June 25, 2012.

It’s not quite Twitter, it’s not exactly LinkedIn, and it’s not really Facebook. But it is the most talked about social network on the block and rhymes with ‘hammer’. You guessed it, I’m talking about Yammer!

As Yammer explains on their website, they “bring the power of social networking to the enterprise in a private and secure environment.” With a stellar consumer software similar to Facebook and Twitter, and the professional social network set-up like LinkedIn, Yammer is designed for “company collaboration, file sharing, knowledge exchange and team efficiency.”

Do you Yam? Microsoft does!

Although Yammer was founded in 2008, earlier this week on June 25, Yammer was acquired by Microsoft Corporation. Currently, Yammer has over 5 million corporate users, including representatives from 85% of the Fortune 500. So what’s next for Yammer? Microsoft plans to incorporate Microsoft features into the social media platform including Microsoft SharePoint, Office, and Dynamics.

Yammer is great product for businesses (especially larger companies) to interact and engage in a specific online community catered to their industry. What do you think about the latest acquisition in social media? Are you a fan of the yam? Comment below and let us know what you think!
