The Bioscience Network Summer Social

Yesterday I attended my first meeting of the Bioscience Network at the Meadhall Restaurant in Cambridge MA. There were over 60 industry professional in attendance, some of which I had previously met. Interestingly enough, I connected with David Burton and Dan Broggi of db2/ARCHitecture, the designers of the building itself. It was nice to feel like I’ve started to develop friendships with some of the members of the BSN. Business cards and contact information is valuable, but face-to-face recognition can go much further in my opinion. Surprisingly, I was even approached by one member about a possible acquisition. Needless to say, this caught me off guard. I calmly gave off some contact information and jested, “everyone has their price.” I’m not holding my breath though- I’m more than happy with things just how they are.

I’m indebted to the Massachusetts Life Science Center for this unparallelled opportunity. Hopefully my internship can be extended with the year-long expansion of the program. I’ve learned so much in the past month and can’t wait to start rolling out even more of the big plans TRA360 has on the drawing board. More to come…

Social Media Breakfast NH

Today I attended my first Social Media Breakfast in Nashua. It was a great learning experience where presenters talked about their efforts involving green business, technology and social responsibility. I got to meet SMBNH Founder Leslie Poston, Co-Organizer Diane Vautier, Kate Luczko the Interim Executive Director of New Hampshire Business for Social Responsibility,  Jim Cavan of Green Alliance, and Debbie DeMoulpied Owner of  Bonafide Green Goods. I applaud their efforts in running businesses that key an eye on the important community issues.

I look forward to attending more meetings in the future as I continue working with TRA360 on our social media efforts with Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.

Yankee IABC Membership Mixer

The Yankee Chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) held a membership mixer on June 9, 2011 at the Hotel Marlowe in Cambridge MA. It was my first of such networking events, and I was excited to get a first-hand look at some of the players in TRA360’s industries. At the meeting there were presidents, writers, managers, students and more eager to socialize. Having a brief chat with several professionals in business communication proved valuable and offered me insight into the workings of our competitors. Not to mention the food was exceptional.

I’m eagerly awaiting the next networking events planned for this coming Tuesday with the Regulatory Affairs Professionals Society (RAPS). It will be nice to have the backup of TRA360’s own Valentina Rosa for all the hardball questions at the meeting.

Ranking Your Tweets

Ever wonder if your tweets help people find you? Does anyone care about your tweets? What about ranking them?

The author of the MoreTechTips blog has thought about these questions and many more. In a recent post entitled “Twitter Rank of Your Website” he describes a “rank checker that calculates the Twitter rank of your website which indicates your realtime search visibility.”

What’s the secret sauce? According to the post: “Rank checker uses the search method of Topsy RESTfull API to query the most popular tweeted stories in the selected domain and time period. Then loops the returned JSON list to calculates the average score…that’s it!”

I tried the rank checker with my tweets over the past month and the results were enlightening. Some really tweets didn’t show up at all and others I thought were not as useful had decent ranks. What conclusions can I draw? How will my tweets change as a result of the rank checker? These are good questions and I don’t have the answers yet. But it’s good to know the rank checker exists and I’ll plan to use it.
