Beating CNN on a scoop! NH Media Makers and Venture Cafe!

NH Media Makers Night At the Currier Museam in Manchester
NH Media Makers Night At the Currier Museum in Manchester

So if you know me, then you probably know I’ve recently started using Twitter these past few weeks. I don’t mean to brag (I totally do) but I beat CNN when tweeting about the House vote on the horrendous debt bill. I watched it live, and saw it was going to pass. Unlike some news organizations who prematurely tweeted of the passage, I tweeted the exact moment there was enough votes. I beat several major news organizations to the punch by at least 30 seconds. I thought that was really cool. Maybe next time they should just retweet me haha.

Last night sure was a busy one. I had to split my time between the always cool Venture Cafe in Cambridge, and my first NH Media Makers night at the Currier Museum in Manchster. Kicking off the evening at the VC was great. I got to see a lot of friendly faces and interact on a first name basis. It’s cool to see people’s ideas come to fruition week after week. It just goes to show what passion and drive can really do for someone’s dream. My dream is to someday become a leader in marketing, and this summer I’ve gotten miles closer to it. That being said, my imagination is far from limited to marketing. I have no idea where this path I’m on will lead, but something tells me it’s a good place.

The Media Makers event was a real treat. The museum itself was spectacular and the MC of the night John Herman did an exceptional job keeping the event rolling. Everyone got a chance to give a “rocket-pitch” about themselves. Though it took quite some time to get through the crowd of roughly 100 people, it was entertaining and fun. I hope the next event isn’t too far away from Manchester, because strangely enough, I like events I don’t have to commute to. Next week I’ve got quite a bit going on with a Nanotechnology Conference run by TURI and a networking gala being put on by CitizenSchool. I’ll stay in touch. And hey, stop being a phantom reader. I could use a comment now and then 😉

Tweet-Up Woburn at the Beacon Grille

Tweet Up Woburn
Tweet Up Woburn.

Yesterday was my first tweet-up and it was awesome. It was Woburn’s first tweet-up and judging by the attendance it was  a major success. The event was organized by David Crowley of Social Capital, a great non-profit focused on connecting the community. Everyone was there to talk about social media in person and on Twitter via the hashtag #tweetupwob.

It was great to share tips and tricks about social media marketing with other in the industry. My tip of the day was regarding a free service called Twitoria where users can tell who hasn’t tweeted recently and free up space. I really look forward to the next one, as everyone there was friendly and willing to share information. Great job David and friends! Read more about it here at the Woburn Patch write-up.

The Venture Cafe at the Cambridge Innovation Center is AWESOME!

The Venture Cafe in Cambridge MA

Yesterday was my first time visiting the Venture Cafe in the Cambridge Innovation Center,  in you guessed- Cambridge. Someday I hope I can live either in or real close to that city- it’s nothing short of amazing. Everyone I talked to had something interesting going on. In the short few months I feel I’ve really developed myself as a marketer and have set a strong foundation for the future. Talking about what I do comes naturally now and people are interested in the work I’ve done and the ideas I have. I event got asked to speak at an upcoming event which I graciously and excitedly agreed to. I can’t wait to make it back hopefully next week! Every Thursday from 3-8 check it out! (if you need any more incentive, there’s free food, drinks and beer.)

Some of the highlights from the event were obviously the people. Chip Selley of Disruptive Apps blew me away with his simple, yet revolutionary idea that will make jukeboxes obsolete. Like I told him, in the tech world 95% of new apps are total garbage and it sucks to listen to people speak so passionately about them. This was not the case with him. In a nutshell, his app allows visitors to restaurants, bars and coffee shops to pick what songs are played over the speakers for a small fee. Similar to a jukebox, only the playlists are unlimited, easily controllable by the owner, and payment is as easy as pushing a button, rather than fishing for a dollar. The industry itself pulls in millions of dollar every year and he’s turning it on it’s head. He’s already talking with the major players in the industry, pun not intended, and I’m sure success on the horizon.

Another great connect was Gabriel Martin of Organism. Call him Gabe and he’ll cut your head off. But seriously, this guy is a social media guru. He once got 1,000 Twitter followers in one day! Needless to say, I got a few pointers and took them to heart. Quality beats quantity, but that name recognition is key and I’m trying to hit my next target of 500 followers. With his help I now have more arrows in my quiver and know that 500 will happen sooner rather than later.
